Hello,

I was running windows xp, office xp, NSW, and many other applications on my toshiba notebook.
Got a DVD-rom error 39 which no advice were able to solve it so I reinstall windows xp.

- After reinstalling, all my applications disappeared from my Start - Programs!
- I can see them in the folder Program files!!

I resintalled all the applicaitons, but "This is the second time this happen and I need to understand why that happened' and if there is any other way to restore them without resintalling each of them.

Thank you

Hi,

Next time do a repair installation instead of a reinstallation. Follow these
steps to do a repair install which should preserve your data, settings, and
programs:

1. Insert the Windows XP CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM
drive.
2. Restart your computer. If you have to, change the BIOS settings to start
from
the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer again.
3. At the "Welcome to Setup" page, press ENTER.
4. Press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement.
5. Use the arrow keys to select the installation of Windows XP that you want
to
repair, and then press R to start the automatic repair process.
6. When Setup is completed, activate Windows XP.

Note that you will need your Product Key for this procedure, so have it
handy before you begin.

HELLO Rich,

Yes, I did that first, but in the middle of the repairement process, windows ask abt a smsa file that he did not find in the CD!! I couldn't browse the CD to check it manually, that is why I had to reinstall it.

But thanx anyway for your assistance.
