I made many changes to file "A" and I was going to SAVE AS to another file name. Instead I did a quick unconscience Ctrl "S". The file is still open (I have not closed it yet - just happened). Can I get the original Excel file back??

Sorry Don, but you're out of luck unless you have a backup somewhere.

Unless you have Norton Utilities, which actually saves and restores
overwritten files. I only needed to use it once, but boy, it was worth its
weight in diamonds!

Just curious. What version of NU are you running? Also which version of
Windows OS.

I recently installed NU 2002 on Windows XP Pro and the Norton Unerase function
just saves the copies as filename.xls.lnk which are useless. All*.lnk's lead
back to current version.

My System Works 4.0 on Windows 98SE saves the actual versioned copies which
can be recovered at will.

Thanks for any help, Gord

Hi Gord:

I meant Norton Systemworks; not Norton Utilities. My mistake.

I'm using the 2003 version with Windows 2000 Professional. It turns the
Recycle Bin into something called Norton Protected Recycle Bin, which looks
empty but is saving all kinds of stuff in the background. You routinely see
in there 4-5 versions of each Excel file that you've worked on recently. As
I said, the one time in years that I actually needed to use it, it came
through with flying colors and saved my bacon. I'm a believer now!

Regards,

Vasant.

Thanks Vasant

Norton SystemWorks Protected Recycle Bin and Unerase works fine. Have been
using for several years on my Win98SE.

The NU 2002 for WinXP Protected Recycle Bin and Unerase doesn't function
similarly. I'll keep plugging away at settings.
