Unrecognised password

My computer has been switched off whilst I have been on
leave for three months. When I switched it on after my
return Windows XP fails to recognise my password which I
have used for years. Even safe mode is blocked to me. I
stand to lose all my records and documents through no
fault of mine. Can anyone help me.

Have you tried to log on with the original Administrator user:

How to Log On to Windows XP If You Forget Your Password or Your
Password Expires

If that doesn't work out, you might try to reset the local Administrator
password with one of the methods mentioned here:
