Hi I read this once along time ago and forgot what the solution was. When I
turn on my Windows xp home pc, 1 of the 4 user accounts says that there is
53 (or so) unread messages. this user account happens to be the one that is
used almost always. I doubt that it has something to do with yahoo or any
web based email programs. so what is this ans how can i stop it. I suspect
it has to do with OEpress but when i open that program, there is nothing
there and only one mail account is available (and rarely used for email)

There is a script here http://dougknox.com/ to disable/enable display of
unread messages.
