Sorry if this is the wrong group. Going away for 10 days. Using a Gateway Laptop with Vista. Should I unplug and let the battery do what ever for the 10 days, or not? Thanks, Barnnie

You should do that regularly... it's not good for the battery to keep
a notebook plugged in all the time.

When you return the battery will still be almost fully charged (if you
haven't ruined it already).

Let it discharge during use before plugging in again.

I don't think that applies to modern batteries.

No need to keep it plugged in for 10 days, assuming it will not be
turned on (Standby is turned on). In fact I would unplug it for anything
over two days. The battery will do very little.

The battery alone would not last 10 days.. take the power adapter with you..

Barnie, it appears that I misunderstood. If you are going away for ten days and leaving your laptop behind, turn it OFF..

Don't flatter yourself. You're not important enough for *anyone* to
stalk. You can be a man and admit you made a mistake or you can try and
denigrate me, hoping your mistake will go unnoticed.

Only after you read my post where I pointed out your mistake.
find something useful to do with your time..

No, you find something useful other than giving our erroneous
information and accusing people of piracy with no proof of same. In
addition, it would help *everyone* if you would stop putting "MVP" after
your name because it misleads people into thinking you have something
useful to contribute.

Speaking of mis-leading. You are mis-leading people with your lies of
Upyourbuuttttooooooooooo being a valid OS

Thanks for your response. I am taking a 10 day PC Free vacation. All the responses were really helpful and I appreciate the time you took to respond.

Sorry, I have never heard of or used "Upyourbuuttttooooooooooo". Ubuntu,
OTOH, is a valid OS and can be used to:

Email
Surf the web
Burn CDs.
Rip CDs.
Listen to music.
Watch vidoes/DVDs.
Scan and print.
Spreadsheets.
Presentations
Newsgroups.
HTML editing.
Games like Chess, Tetris, all kinds of solitaire, etc.
Make videos.
Download photos from a camera and organize them.
Translations.
Use a dictionary
Learn how to touch type.
Edit images.
Send and receive a fax.
Take screenshots.
Create .PDF files.
Create and use a data base.
Instant messaging with over 10 different programs in one including
Windows Live Messenger.
IRC.
Bluetooth.

and much more!

What you can't do with Ubuntu:

Worry about:
WPA and WGA raising their ugly heads,
DRM,
Viruses,
Root kits,
Spyware,
and
Malware.

The air of self importance that MVPs like Mike and Carey bring to this
newsgroup is so thick you could cut it with a knife.
