I inadvertently clicked off the "Show Unplug/Eject icon on
the taksbar" function in the "Unplug or Eject" window in
the tray and have now lost it. Can anyone help me locate
this function so I can see the icon once more in the
tray? I have a laptop, use a lot of USB stuff, and need
the functionality. Thanks, R. Hertle

It's in the properties of your adapter (Control Panel / Network Adapters).

MS didn't put it in a very convenient place for this. You'll have to use the Unplug/Eject Wizard to unplug a current device and at the last prompt screen there'll be an option for the tray icon.

Start at System Properties (Winkey+Break or r-click My Computer, select Properties). Select Hardware > Hardware Wizard > Uninstall/Unplug a device > Unplug/Eject a device. Select one of your USB devices and follow the prompts. The last screen will contain the option you're looking for. Unplug the device, close System Properties, re-plug the device and the tray icon will reappear.
