Allen,
Appreciate the help. Opened System Information and then Startup Programs
and came up with the list below. Nothing looks out of ordinary.
As it's been a while since I used my DOS commands, can you refresh my
memory
on how to open the configsys file so I can check that?
Again, thanks.

The "msconfig" application is installed in the Windows directory. I don't
know where it is installed on your machine but on mine it is Windows\Service
Pack Files\i386 . You may have to search the Windows directory to find it.
To run type "cmd" to open a command prompt window, then use the "browse"
button to navigate to the "msconfig" application. As I already mentioned, it
is probably one of the startup applications. To debug the problem, simply
uncheck all of them and restart the computer. Then check the boxes one at a
time until you find which one is causing the problem.
In particular there is a "trick" that some people use about the "qttask.exe"
entry to prevent it from running at startup. In your \Program
Files\QuickTime\ folder rename "qttask.exe" to "qttask.exe.bak" or
"qttask.bak". Then if you uncheck the box in msconfig "qttask.exe" will stop
inserting itself at startup. But this is probably not the cause of your
immediate problem. I noticed from the list that you submitted that "Skype"
is set to start minimized. That seems a little suspicious to me. Good luck
in your attempt to run msconfig.
