I am a complete novice with no clue as to how to fix my
problem. I boot up my computer and Xp appears to go
through the motions and bam!! I get a blue screen stating
that there is an unmountable__boot__volume error. Last
working configuration leads me to the same problem. Safe
mode gives me a file list and then back to the blue screen
with the error message. Any suggestions.

Thanks for the help,
Macks

Macks;
Power off
Desktop:...Open the case and reseat the hard drive IDE ribbon cable at
both ends.
Laptop:... simply remove and reinsert the hard drive.
If that fails:

Otherwise go to the website of the hard drive manufacturer and
download their hard drive diagnostics.

Do you have a hard drive overlay such as Max Blast?
Windows XP sometimes has issues with overlay software.
You may need to perform a Clean Installation without there overlay
software which is not needed anyway.
