Unlocking pipe thingies

rivatuner thing, which unlocks the things on the graphics card...

im willing too try it, but...i cant find anywhere what potential problems it can cause if my card cant handle it.

will it be hotter? if it goes wrong, is there a chance i might bugger up the card? im willing too give it a try as long as i know i can get out of a bad situation :)

a vanilla 6800 is a GT card, but with lower clock speeds and locked pipe thingies and vertex shaders. a rivatuner or whatever its called can unlock it via software. a vanilla 6800, but its really a lower clocked 6800GT.

theres a 70% chance it will work. im willing too give it a go, but i want too know what problems it might cause.
 
The riva tuner forces your card to work faster, which is fine if your only doing it a little. But if you want noticable results you need to have some case fans installed to keep the temprature inside your case as cool as possible then you can overclock it more. But it does make your card hotter, and can cause serious damage. Most people only do it loads if they have a water cooled graphics card, or they have the side of the PC case off and have a relativly cool room. Your GPU works hard enough as it is, reaching tempratures of around 80c at stock speeds when playing graphicly demanding games.

If i were you i would try and do some more research, try googling it and find out from other peoples experiences, you dont wanna be melting your shiney new gfx card dude.
 
after reading around, i found out that it all depends on each graphics card. some cant be softmodded at all, some can all the way with about 1 degrees increase.

i unlocked 1 vertex shader, and i get a 6000 increase on aquamark3!!!!!!
and, its about the same temp as before. im very, very happy about this, but will do alot of stress tests before even considering unclocking the 3 other pipelines.

:D i have a semi GT card now!
