I installed messenger, and it asked if I wanted to link
the user with the .et, and now I get a message on the
sign in page that says I have email, but I don't want
that.

Greetings,

To unlink your .NET Passport with your Windows XP User Profile, click the Start Button, then
click the Control Panel. Then, click User Accounts in the Control Panel. Select your account
name, and then on the left side of the screen, under Related Tasks, click 'Manage my Network
Passwords'. In the window that opens, click the Passport.Net\* (Passport) entry and click
'Remove'.

However, this will not removed the mail on your welcome screen in XP (assuming that's what
you're referring to). To remove that, download the TweakUI powertoy:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp (see on the right).

After you have TweakUI installed, click Start, All Programs, Powertoys for Windows XP, and
choose TweakUI for Windows XP. In the TweakUI window, on the left, click the '+' next to
Logon, and choose Unread Mail. Uncheck 'Show unread mail on Welcome screen' and click OK.
