I'm in need of some help. I've created a site with
Frontpage

the site summary shows:
157 files
103 picture
63 unlinked files
94 linked files
0 broken links
4 slow pages
180 internal hyperlinks
2 external hyperlinks

when I test the site in IE and Netscape if appears exactly
the way I want it and all the links work perfectly. What
are "unlinked files?" What to I need to do? Link
them? To what? Most of them are jpgs.

It might be helpful to know the source material is
powerpoint. I've copied the pictures from ppt and pasted
them into frontpage. I've done this successfully before
using Claris Homepage.

Second problem: I cannot publish the site to my earthlink
home page. Tech support at earthlink says that you cannot
upload from frontpage to a free web page. Can that be
true!?

Earthlink told me that I needed to disable frontpage
server extension which I did still with no success.

Any help would be appreciated.
Joe

I've also tried using ws ftp32 with no success.

If your site work just fine, then you can disregard the unlinked files.
However all images should be imported into your current open FP web, not
pasted into your FP page, prior to being inserted on your pages, otherwise
after publishing, only you may be able to see them on the web, since the
path for them will point back to your HD.

If Earthlink tells you that you can't use FP to publish, they should know
what they are talking about, since it is their servers.

yes and got the same answer. "You can't post to a free
web page using FP. I don't believe it. In fact, I did
try using ws ftp32 and it start file transfer then I get
an error message about port 17 not being found; in FP I
get the same error message except it's port 80. Very
strange.

Fortunately I have all my source pics isolated in a ppt
folder. But I've got this question: I copied the pic from
ppt and pasted in fp. When I saved the individual page fp
made an htm file of the whole page and a separate jpg file
of just the pic. So I have a complete "image" file of all
the pics. Won't I be able to upload the "image" file so
that they will be on the server along with the htm files?

Based on your message I have imported all of the ppt jpgs
into a separate file in the web page named ppt jpgs. I
created two files on my desktop 1) ppt jpgs; and 2) fp
jpgs. My plan is to match the pic in each file and rename
the imported pics the same name as the fp jpgs. Then
delete the fp jpgs and use the imported jpgs as the source
on the web site. Is all that necessary? Is there a more
expedient way to do it?

Why wouldn't you believe them, as a host they have complete control of how
users can access their servers to uploading content.

You need to login to your free account and check for the site/page upload
function for free sites.

or

You need to pay for a regular web hosting account.

Thanks again. As for file size, all of my ppt jpgs have
been downsized to an average 72k. I noticed that FP
brings them down to 2 to 5k.

The fp/earthlink issue has been clarified for me. I
talked to tech support and they told me that you cannot
upload fp with the file server extension to a free site.
I've already disabled the FSE's so I'm told that I will be
able to upload using an ftp pgm. You cannot use fp to
publish due to the FSE issue even with the FSE disabled.
Thanks again for your help. This hopefully will end this
tread!

This is a great service and all of us benefit from your
and your associates experience. Thank for your time and
knowledge.
