I am having a problem with some sites not being in the internet zone.
Examples are www.cnn.com, www.microsoft.com. Many other sites are stated to
be in the internet zone and work just fine. The problem is the sites that
are not in the internet zone will not display or stop partly thru the
display of the page. How can I force my browzer to think that a page is in
the internet zone????

Thanks Jan I, I figured out how to do this and tried it just a while ago and
it is not making any difference. I have been trying to solve this problem
for quite a long time (6 month), The funny part is if I use a direct dial-up
connection the sites that dont work, now work OK. This only happeneds when
it is connected to my local network. This network is connected to the
internet via dial-up as well. My router is a linksys with all DCHP turned off
and and another computer on my network is the DCHP computer. It almost looks
as if some type of function is missing on my computer because the page loads
just stop as seen by looking at my network comm lights in the lower right
corner of the windows screen. No errors. The computer that is handling the
DCHP works just fine.

Why not just add them <g>

Hi Tractorguy :-)

It does sound as though something is blocking the access. You don't mention
the version of Windows you are using, but, try the following as it may apply
to your OS and see if it helps:

Check your HOST file and Restricted files to see it they are listed them and
remove them if so.
If you have any 3rd party toolbars such as Google, Yahoo or MSN, disable
them
If you have Yahoo Companion, uninstall it
And ad or popup blockers, disable them
Make sure your security is set correctly

Go to Tools>Internet Options>Privacy
Click Sites.
Enter each of the following sites and click Always Allow:
cnn.com
microsoft.com

also..

In Internet Explorer -
1. Tools > Internet Options > Advanced
2. Scroll down to the Security Settings.
3. Make sure that the two boxes are checked that say
"Enable SSL 2" or "Enable SSL 3".
Try your secure sites.

Check your Proxy settings
Check the dial-up settings

Check your Security settings for that zone.
If it is the Internet zone use the Default Level button.
If it is in the Trusted sites zone and at the Default Level
(e.g. Low level and Default Level button is greyed)
then try removing the site from the Trusted sites zone.
Run the problem sites in the Internet zone (with Default Level security)
instead of the Trusted Zone.

also..

Zone Alarm Pro can block access to Internet
http://www.neowin.net/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t230331.html

You might try "Prompt" for Active Scripting in the Internet Zone.

If the above suggestions don't help, then, hopefully, someone who is more
familiar with this type of problem will be able to help you.

Hope this helps.

How does one do that? <eg>
Hmm... I never even noticed the Sites... button on the Internet zone before
but mine is greyed. Does this mean that the OP would be using an already
customized Internet zone too? <w>

I would say the opposite. Delete them from the Trusted zone
(or wherever else they are being checked.)

Also check with Privacy Report (Alt-V,v) whether the site is showing
a Privacy Policy. Lack of a Privacy Policy may be leaving the zone
as Unknown when the expectation would be that it should be Trusted instead.

FWIW I had similar symptoms having microsoft.com in the trusted zone
and deleting all trusted zone entries made all its sites work normally again.

Point well taken. Thank you for the additional information. Added to my
