Greetings.
Until now I have been the only account holder on my computer and have
administrator rights. Recently, on start up, a new screen has appeared
asking me to choose the account holder, with only my name to choose from. On
checking in Control Panel/ Accounts, I see this account listed apart from
myself: "ASP.NET MachineA. Limited account. Password Protected."
Any Ideas? I have not tried to delete etc. before asking here. I have the
Mcafee Internet Suite with anti Spyware etc. which has seemingly worked well
so far. My ISP (PlusNet) also filters Spyware and viruses. I'm running XP
Home. Cheers.

Thanks Jon. Speedy reply or what! Deleted account. Will scan now. Will stick
to Mcafee though unless I abolutely must; I don't like mixing things up like
that, often leads to probs with the programmes interfering with each other,
don't you think? I have a firewall as part of the McAfee suite...mmh. Thanks
again. Mike

Hi

That account is created when you install .NET Framework. If you delete it, programs that use .NET Framework - not that many ATM - may not work properly.

Bad advice! It's not a hacker :o)

ASP.NET is created as a result of installing the .NET Framework update from WindowsUpdates page. Look at this page for more information about this account: http://www.mvps.org/marksxp/windowsxp/aspdot.htm

To make Windows XP login [without deleting the ASP.NET account], read here:
Configure Windows XP to Automatically Logon:

Visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and see if you are able to install .NET Framework again. I believe this is also available as a redist.

No, it doesn't come up as an available update. I appreciate the help, though
next time I wont be quite as quick off the mark!

Many thanks. I guess I should also go to the install/uninstal/Windows
components and uninstall .Net from there?
Mike
The account is used by .NET Framework enabled applications and you may leave
it as it is [if you don't plan to use .NET based applications]. If you want
to download, get it from here:

Yes. If you don't want that package. WindowsUpdate should list .NET Framework again once you uninstall it from Add/Remove.
