I have a file that was created before I came on board to
work here. I changed the password and it worked fine.
Then, after backing up the system on Friday, a user comes
in on Saturday and tells me that he cannot open the file.

The file not only has my password but seems to have another
password in a smaller box. I went under Security and tried
to strip all passwords from Users & Admins. and that works
to enter the program, however, it will not open our file.

I converted this file to an Excel format prior to this error.
How do I convert it back into the database file?

I am new to all this so be kind :-) ..... tell me like a 2
year old :) ..... But any help would be so appreciated.
Thanks - Annie -

Let's start with your last question. You can get the data back (at
least partly) from the Excel file. Create a new Access file and then go to
the top line menu then:

FILE
GET EXTERNAL DATA

Select Excel as the file type and find the file

You will not have the forms or reports, but you should have the data.
You may need to re-normalize the database. If you don't understand, don't
worry it likely was not normalized to start with.

For the security question I suggest you start by reading
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];207793

Access security is a great feature, but it is, by nature a complex product
with a very steep learning curve. Properly used it offers very safe
versatile protection and control. However a simple mistake can lock
everyone including God out.

Practice on some copies to make sure you know what you are doing.

Was this the database password, or a password for a user?

Sounds like you're getting both a username/password prompt and a database
password prompt.

I'm not entirely clear whether you are now getting a database password
prompt, where you didn't have one before. If that's the case, it is a sign
of corruption and the sudden appearance of a database password prompt can
occur if someone opened the database in Word. If that happened, you'll
likely need to go to your last backup.
