Under active directory sites and services if I look at the
properties/security of any of my DC's there are listed in
the users permissions area strange entries. Authenticated
Users and SYSTEM are listed. But then....

There is a question mark next to an icon of a mans head
with a long string of alpha numerica characters next to it
with various rights assigned.

What are these users????? Can they be removed????

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

That is a user or group that the operating system can not resolve the name of and is
listing the sid instead which is how the operating system keeps track of objects. It
may represent a user or group that at one time had explicit permissions/rights
assigned to it and then were deleted. I would not necessarily delete them as they
could be from another domain and there is a temporary problem resolving the names.
The power users group shows up this way sometimes on computers that have been
promoted to domain controller because that group no longer exists on a domain
controller. --- Steve
