We are not getting this as a bootup "Stop" error, but instead it is
occurring occasionally on systems in the field and is displayed in a dialog
box in the center of the screen. There are no other details, and the dialog
can't be dismissed (click on OK and it just pops up again). A reboot clears
it, but apparently it is prone to coming back.

Anyone have any ideas on what could cause this?

I looked in the newsgroup archives, but the only similar incident is one
that I reported myself a while back. In that case, clicking OK to the dialog
resulted in a blue screen with a KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR message. There
were no responses to my message at that time, either.

I've seen that once before when the event log itself was corrupted. When a
write to the event log fails, it can pop up that dialog.

What was the title of the dialog box?
