It sounds like you are seeing the SID for a user who either no longer
exists in the environment, or who belongs to another forest which may have
had a trust at some point in the past (whether it does now or not). Unless
you are seeing some sort of failure it is probably not a problem. To be
proactive, it would be worth investigating the SID if there are no other
trusted domains or forests. If the user rights are being assigned via
Group Policy and there is an unresolved SID, it can cause problems with the
policy applying.
Please provide more information about the environment if this does not
point you in the right direction.

| If I select any user in active directory (with advanced features enabled)
| and select 'mailbox rights', there is a user in the list that has full
| control but the GUID has not been resolved to a user name.

| If I search through the registry for the GUID, it turns up in "Protected
| Storage System Provider".
