I have 2 files in the root directory of a WINXP Home Ed. machine. The
names are A2211.exe and 24tgs.exe. I can't find any reference to them on
the internet. just concerned that they shouldn't be there.

Most virus, worm, ect. use random names. You should scan your system.

Beginning of standard canned reply.

Update Windows. Use a firewall.
Use an Anti-Virus of your choice and keep it updated.
In Windows Explorer, set Folder Options to “show all files”.
Clean out all temp, cache, ect. files.

Read this(it tells you how to use it!):
http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/tsc/readme.txt
Reboot into safe mode and run Sysclean, write down results, then reboot
normally.
If offending file is in “restore” read this:

Max,

Have uptodate Norton AV on machine and scanned, have run stinger, spybot, ad-aware, various tools, although not all
that you mentioned. Just thought maybe someone else had run into theses before if they were bad files to have.

may try some you mentioned.

thanks,

Ron
