I have a rather annoying display of new hardware messages that appear when
Vista first boots. They can never find the appropriate driver, and if I ask
for the new hardware to be ignored in future, the computer will then fail to
boot in Vista. I have tracked these to the disk partitions on the second
drive. The device manager lists three Generic volumes and three Unknown
devices under Storage Volumes. These correspond to the six partiitions on the
computer. If I delete a partition on the second drive I get one less new
hardware message.
I originally partitioned the system for Vista using Partition Magic under
XP, and at first everything was OK, but then the problem started later when I
adjusted the partitions on the second drive again using Partition Magic under
XP. From then on any partition on the second drive including any created
using Vista's own storage management has come up as an unknown device.
Despite this the volumes are all available. Vista is actually installed on
one of them. It's just very annoying.
Does anyone know how to fix it ?
