Unjustifiable upgrades

I want a faster CPU and RAM, but can't find any justification for the
upgrade. It's simply a matter of ::stamping foot:: I WANT IT. I don't
have a reason, I just want it.

I can't decide whether or not to deplore myself for this. Comments?

I've bought stuff on a whim, smugness ensued, for a while....
 
I'm going from a P4 2.4C/Radeon 9700np, in 2 days, to a P4 3.0C/Asus Radeon
9800XT....TOTALLY unjustified. But, will it make me happy? You bet.

Personally, I am well over 60 so I am enjoying my second childhood,
only this time I have money.

Sure! I'm a single dad. When I upgrade, my older son in college gets my old mb/cpu/ram,
and my 7 year old son get's the innerds of his computer.
You just have to establish this upgrade hierarchy and your family becomes your upgrade
support group.
..... they have no idea they're being used as upgrade cheerleaders......

You're a tech Guru, right? I don't think you have any option *but* to
upgrade so you can speak from first hand experience. It's the least you can
do for him.

There's never any other reason for anything, is there?
Reason only comes in when figuring out _exactly_ what it is you want,
and how to get it. (which sometimes isn't just squandering your
resources, even though we also have to realize that we need to live
here and now. :-D)

Lurking on a.c.hw.pc-hb maybe prods the subconscious. Seems so to me.

Sorry, I don't understand you on this. Might be some shopping
behaviour stimulu-response, developed through long meaningless
discussions with some guy. ;-)
Maybe some counter therapy is available? ;-)

If you're playing Morrowind on your 7500 AIW, may I suggest you treat
yourself to a better garphics card? ;-)
