Does my computer need to have UPnP enabled to get my UPnP router to interact
with Messenger to open the correct ports. When I did enable UPnP my computer
came up in a strange state and I had to do
a restore to an earlier point. Larry

Hi,

That's not exactly true 100% of the time, some versions of Linksys firmware for their routers
have required UPnP to be enabled in XP in order for proper UPnP operation. Thankfully, I
believe they've fixed this now, but routers with older firmware are still being sold.

I don't get an Internet Gateway on my Network Connections page so can't
release the forwardings and UPnP is not enabled on my computer. Linksys
Answer ID 614 says that as of 6/2/04 Linksys and Microsoft are still working
on a solution to have it work without enabling UPnP on the computer and
recommend enabling it as a workaround. When I enabled it my computer lost
it's system tray so I restored to an earlier time to get it back. Is it a
Microsoft problem or a Linksys problem? regards, Larry

Router is BEFSR41 version3.
