Hi,
I am trying to manually uinstall IE and OE with no avail. I keep getting an
error message that I cannot delete the files because they are being used or
currently open, eventhough all realed files are closed.
I cannot remove them through control panel because they are not there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If you have Windows XP you *cannot* uninstall IE. Why are you wanting to?

Hi Suchi :-)

And as Gordon stated, if you are using XP you cannot uninstall IE, as it is
a core part of that program. Manually deleting the IE files can damage the
Windows system program which may require a full reinstall.

Also, if you uninstall IE you may not be able to properly update your
system. If you wish to use another browser then download and install another
of your choice.

Hope this helps :-)

To manually remove IE and OE from your system do a full reformat of your

Thanks for all the replies.
I am trying to unistall IE and OE because my OE is not initializing. I had
to re-install windows XP couple months ago and since then my OE is not
working. Every time I try to open OE I get this error message "Outlook
Express could not be started. The application was unable to open the Outlook
Express message store. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is
full. Contact Microsoft support for further assistance. (0x800co12E, 3)"
When I click ok, then I get:

"Outlook Express could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be
initialized. Outlook Express may not be installed correctly"
I went to the "help" section for OE and this very issue is dealt with by
re-installing OE. It says that this problem occurs because several versions
of OE are intstalled. How can I unistall OE and re install it without having
to reinstall IE?
I am very frustrated and would really appreciate any helpful suggestions.

Thanks

Suchi

Uninstalling/Reinstalling IE/OE won't help. The error points to corruption
in your message store.

1. In Windows Explorer, search for Folders.dbx and delete it. In WindowsXP,
the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view
these files in Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under
Start>Control Panel>Folder Options>View.

In doing so, you will lose the mail tree structure, all lists of newsgroups,
and all synchronization options, and that message rules will likely need to
be edited...but OE may now open.

2. If no joy, see http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/problems/errors.htm#crash.
