How do I unistall and go back to xp - i did the "new" install instead of
"upgrade"...is this a simple system restore to yesterday.
thanks

Mashley--

No it is not a simple system restore to go back to the legacy OS. It would
be if you were installing a service pack.

This is one method for you to use, and if it doesn't work you may have to
format but it should:

Good luck,

You need your original XP disc and will have to reinstall it.

That would not work as he did a clean install and not an upgrade??

The windows.old folder will be there as long as the OP did not format the
drive during the install. If the drive was formatted, then the only option
is to install XP clean by formatting the drive during the XP install.

Thanks Beck - yea I did a clean install a partitioned on my D drive..i've
seen where this can be undone

Oh do you still have XP on the C drive?
If so then it should be easy to get XP back to normal without Vista
providing you still have XP on the C

Boot from XP disc and start setup. When at main screen press R for recovery
console.
When it asks which OS you want to repair press the number corresponding to
XP and press enter.
type fixboot then press enter
type fixmbr then press enter
accept all the prompts. If you have no admin password for XP, leave it
blank and press enter.

This will restore XP as the only boot option. Vista will still be on drive
D. You can then format drive D once back within XP.

OP was ambiguous then. Did he do a dual boot? He was clear he didn't do an
upgrade. I'm not sure from what has been written.

"new install" doesn't say whethere he formatted XP and did a clean install
of Vista or a dual boot.

Well you are correct there is not alot of information and I am taking each
post as it comes. I thought maybe he dual booted because his Vista is on D
partition.
