Hi Chippy :-)

IE is a core part of XP, therefore, it can not be uninstalled. However, it
can be repaired. You will have to reinstall the SP2.

Try the following and see if it helps:

It primarily depends on whether they're running XP with SP1 integrated or XP
with SP1 added on.

Start, Run and enter REGEDIT

Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

SourcePath == Should point to the CD drive. Sometimes users change
the letter and XP can't find its files
ServicePackSourcePath == Should be the same as SourcePath if SP1 was
integrated in the install, might be C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles if SP1 was
added later
ServicePackCachePath == C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\ServicePackCache if
SP1 was added later, won't exist if SP1 was integreated.

Additionally, to use SFC and the XP CD, it must be a retail CD, not a
"recovery" CD. For OEM installs, there should be a copy of the I386
folder on the hard drive. If so, the SourcePath value should point to the
drive/folder its in. Example: C:\ not C:\I386.

Use TweakUI to set the installation path to the drive where the CD is
located. XP is looking for the CD at that path and if the path is wrong it
issues that odd error message that you have the wrong CD.

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
