I am moving us (except for our 92-year-old buyer) from
Paper purchase orders to Excel. All is ok, except for the
Purchase Order Number. Each merchant or dept has a 2-
digit number assigned to him/her. I want that to be the
first 2 digits of the PO number - which I can do with
concatenate.
My problem is what to do with the rest of the number.
They can do more than one PO in a day, so I thought I'd do
NOW serial number and take the right 4 digits of date and
the right 4 of time to get a unique number.
Is there a better way? Since the first 2 digits will
always be limited to one buyer, I only need to guarantee
unique (for the day and any in the past) for the rest of
the number. It's ok if 2312345 and 2612345 are created on
the same (or different) days.
Each merchant will have a "Blank" and will probably edit a
prior version to save time, so I can't expect to pull from
a pre-defined list, I don't think.
Thanks
