I've run into a problem and haven't found an IT person yet
who could help! A few days ago, I began having problems
launching My Network Place, My Computer, Control Panel,
etc. from the start menu (programs launch) and can't
launch anything from the Explorer window.

I'm running a PC (XP), Laptop (XP) and a Mac (OSX) on a 4-
port router with DSL in my home.

This morning I found a strange entry in My Network. My
computers show up in My Network Places/Microsoft Windows
Network/Mshome. BUT under My Network Places/Web Client
Network, I have a strange guest --
Studentweb.med.harvard.edu. Along with the listings of
shared folders on the various computers is a folder for a
particular student at harvard, which Harvard IT confirms.

My ISP claims my router has a firewall. I've run every
kind of diagnostic, started in safe mode, done system
restore, run clrav to see if it was a trojan--nothing
found.

Anyone know what is going on!?!?

I would suggest changing the user name and/or password on you router. It most likely is still set to default. the other thing is that if you have a wireless connection without a key protecting you, somebody can access your network just by sitting on your front lawn. However if you dont not have wireless conection you may have a staic IP in which case they can search and add you to their network and sit there sniffing open ports until they find an open one and try the basic router passwords add access you that way. Mind you there is a little more that goes into it, but that is the easiest way to explain it.

I would suggest you also run Zone Alarm (the free one works fine) or some
other software firewall. Then you can control access to your network/PC.
