I recently purchased a new computer with Windows XP professional and MS Word
2000. My previous computer used Windows 2000. For some years I have
transferred MS Word files from office to home through a virtual desktop run
with Citrix software. I set up a virtual folder on the Citrix desktop that
corresponds to an actual folder on my home computer so that I can move files
from work to home. I then log off and open the MS Word files I have moved
to edit them. I have found, with my new computer, that I am unable to save
those files. I can click on the file menu and then on either "save" or
"save as" but nothing happens. I can close the file if I say that I do not
want to save the changes.
If I look at the files in Explorer using "Details" view I see that they
differ from other files in that they have a "status" attribute and this is
set to "online." If I copy this same file to my old computer I can open,
modify and save it in the usual way, again using MS Word 2000. For this
reason, I assume this is some new wrinkle with Windows XP that I have not
figured out. It seems almost as if I have activated file synchronization,
but I have not. Is there a way to remove the "status" attribute or reset
it?
