Unintended password protection

I am a one person business and have a website that I built and
maintain myself on a computer that I alone use. I use Frontpage 2002
and have Windows XP. I added two pages to my site today that are not
unusual in any way from what I have done previously. Except suddenly
if I (or another person on another computer) try to log on to my site,
it asks for a password. If I hit cancel, the index page opens and
there is no problem getting to any of the old pages. If I try to go to
either of the new pages, it asks for a password. When I hit cancel, I
get an "access denied" page.

I have tried reading about adding passwords to a site or page thinking
I could undo this because I don't want anyone to need a password to
get to my site. But I don't seem to have the ability to add a password
if I wanted to. Now I can't get rid of one I never wanted in the first
place.

Thanks for any help.

Open you web on your local computer in FP (File Menu | Open Web)

In Folder List View (Left Panel) right click on the top most folder (name of
folder holding your web), properties, and may sure Allow files to browsed is
Checked. Then re-publish.

You also should open you live site directly in FP as well as do the same as
above, after publish your local copy.

Tried that with the web on my computer. When I select properties there
is nothing to check related to allowing files to be browsed. There are
3 grayed check boxes having to do with scripts and allowing others to
upload, but none for browsing.

Opened the live web in FP. Clicked the properties and this one had a
box that was already checked to allow browsing. So I didn't change
anything. Then I opened the site in IE and it asked for password
again. Tried to open it in FP again and it wouldn't let me.

Thanks for your help.

Make sure your home page is named as required by your host. If it is then
you need to contact your host.

When I click properties for the web on my computer, there is no box to
check for Allow Browsing. There are some other boxes that are grayed
out but they are only for scripts and allowing others to upload.

I opened the live web in FP. When I click the properties, there was a
check box to allow browsing and it was already checked. I closed FP,
opened the web in IE and it still asked for password. Tried to get it
open again in FP but it won't let me open it now.

Sorry if this is 2nd such message. I sent one like it this morning but
it is not showing up so I am trying again.
Thanks.

You need to check with your host.
