When I orginally purchased my system, it had pre-loaded
Windows 98; then later on I upgraded to XP. XP has been
nothing but headaches, problems, and contrary. I have
purchased DSL, and because TCP/IP automatically loaded in
Win 98, but not XP,....you can see where my problem is.
What do I need to do to go back to Win 98? When I go to
Add/Remove programs,.....I don't see XP Windows anywhere
in the remove area; When I go to the Add/Remove Windows
components, XP keeps trying to setup. H-e-l-p!

Where do I need to go to re-format. I'm a newbie at
this, so a few helpful hints or steps would be greatly
appreiated

Thanks,......Tiger

If you have your original 98 cd you'll have to reload it and go back to
day one, (Reformat if it ask you) before you install 98, I take it your XP
cd was a upgrade

"How to uninstall Windows XP and revert to a previous operating system"

An XP upgrade can be uninstalled only if the Win98 files were preserved
during the upgrade, and the boot partition was never converted to NTFS.

You may be stuck with a reformat.

I wonder how much longer Microsoft will support 98? I believe that they were
going to drop it earlier this year, but they were prevailed upon to extend
it a bit. (The main value in "support" is security patches.)

Good luck.

Address altered. nkbob is really bobkn.

Greetings --

The normal way to "uninstall" _any_ operating system is to format
the hard drive and install a new OS of your choice.

However, if you performed an upgrade from Win98/Me, elected to
backup the old system files, and didn't convert the partition to NTFS,
then all you need do is boot into Safe Mode and Start > Control Panel
Add/Remove Programs. All of these conditions _must_ be met for the
uninstall option to be available.
