Hi

How did you install XP? If it was an 'upgrade' - from a previously installed version of Windows - and you chose to save the uninstall files - then there will be an entry in Add/Remove Programs. An 'upgrade' without saving the uninstall files, will mean a 'clean' install of XP.

john, don't think you really want to do that. That's your operating system. If you remove it (which you can do with some difficulty by formatting the drive) all your computer functions will be gone.If you've got a problem with the OS put the computer into a "system restore" and it will reset to a time when the computer was working properly without losing programs> unless you've recently installed some --then you'll just have to re-install them using your CD for each program----If this does'nt work you can put the computerinto a "system recovery" and it will restore everythig that was shipped originally from the manufacturer (but any programs or settings or internet connections will be lost and need to be reinstalled). So go with the "restore operation" and see if that works-good luck

He never stated why he wanted to uninstall XP, perhaps you can help him
troubleshoot his survival there. Beyond that, there is no difficulty
formatting and yes, the functions will be gone.

Greetings --

The normal way to "uninstall" _any_ operating system is to format
the hard drive and install a new OS of your choice.

However, if you performed an upgrade from Win98/Me, elected to
backup the old system files, and didn't convert the partition to NTFS,
then all you need do is boot into Safe Mode and Start > Control Panel
Add/Remove Programs. All of these conditions _must_ be met for the
uninstall option to be available.

Bruce,
I have the same problem (trying to totally uninstall XP
Home Edition so I can reinstall Windows ME ... don't ask
why), and I have followed every step of Knowledge Base
314052 (3 times!) including the "format c: /fs:fat32" .
I see the messages that it is reformatting, but when it's
all done (I exit the Recovery Console)... Voila! Windows
XP starts up again and welcomes me!

I cannot get rid of it! Please help.
