I want to uninstall Windows Search 4.0 for Windows XP (recent Windows
update) since it slows down the computer with constant indexing.
I want to be sure
(1) I will still have the Search Companion, and that
(2) no scraps of WS4 are left lying about. Also want to make sure that
(3) WS4 Indexing is no longer running in Services.
(4) (what is the normal setting for Indexing in Services (for Search
Companion) (Automatic? or Manual?)

I haven't found a microsoft site that gives uninstall directions for windows
XP that will assure (1), (2), (3) (4).
It does show up in the Add/Remove program. Can you advise me of (1) (2) (3)
(4)?

The neweer search is know as Windows Desktop Search. I have
accidentally had this installed and by unstalling it from Add /
Remove, all seems to return to normal.
