How can I uninstall Windows Mail? I do not use it, but it keeps popping up
wanting to compact the message store. It also sometimes "thinks" it is my
default mail client and comes up, even though it is not set up.

..
It is part of Vista, and very hard to uninstall without also uninstalling
the rest of Vista. However, if you let it compact its message store,
it should shut up about the message store until you have run it a
certain number of times more - probably 100 times. Never mind
if there is actually anything in the message store.

You can't uninstall Windows Mail.
You can change the interval for getting that compaction prompt.
In Windows Mail: Tools, Options, Advanced, Maintenance, "Compact
the database on shutdown every X runs". Change X to some large number
like 999. I don't know what the largest number is that it will accept.

The secret to not having it pop up is to set your desired email service
as the default.

Whenever I clicked the OK button for compressing the message store, It
says,"The folder is currently in use by Windows Mail or another program."
Live Mail is my default, however I get this message whether Live Mail is
opened or not.

Why didn't you start your own thread?

What is your Windows version? XP? Vista?

What e-mail program are you using?

What folder is currently in use? You can move the message out of the way
by grabbing the blue banner at the top.
