I have installed Win XP Pro on the same partition of my
computer on which I have Winn 2000. Is there any way I
can uninstall Win 2000 now. Already after starting Win XP
most of the icons on my desktop are missing, only
trashcan is there. And this annoying dual boot on
startup...
Thankxfor the help

Sooo... you didn't want a dual-boot scenario?? Please clarify your
intention. If you were trying to keep data and software intact, you should
have done an upgrade, not a clean install. Also, installing to the same
partition is not wise if you want to have two o/s's installed. You cannot
"uninstall" windows; your best bet is to reformat the partition. If you
installed to a separate bootable partition, you could simply move data to
the new partition, then wipe the old partition, now your best option is to
wipe it completely anyway and start over. But if you have data to preserve,
that is a different situation. It sounds like you were surprised that your
icons were gone, but that is what happens with a clean install, so my guess
is that was not your intention.

Thanks for your reply serverguy
I had transferred all my data to an external hard drive
and wanted to have a clean install instead of an upgrade/
so now my aim is to get rid of Win2k regardless of what
else happens (data wise I mean of course) so any
suggestions how this can be done. To be noted though that
I have only one partition on my HD where of course are
the 2 OSes.
