I run Windows 2000 Professional on my computer. Recently I decided to go
through the first few steps re-installation W2K, because I was wanting to
become more familiar with how it is done. After I placed the W2K CD disk
into the CD rom and started the process, I proceeded thru the initial steps
that I wanted to. Then I came to a screen that said:
"CAUTION: A \WINNT folder already exists that may contain a windows
installation. If you continue, the existing windows installation will be
overwritten.
All files, subfolders, user accounts, applications, security and desktop
settings for that Windows installation will be deleted. The "My Documents"
folder will also be deleted."
Well that was as far as I wanted to go thru the set-up process. The text on
the screen gave me the option of quiting set-up by pushing F3. I did. Then
a screen popped up asking me to confirm that I wanted to exit set-up, and to
confirm it I was to push F3 again. So I did and set-up quit. I then
removed the W2K CD from the computer CD-ROM. I have since discovered that
when I am doing a normal boot-up, that within just a few seconds a screen
comes on giving me the option of starting either one of the following two
choices:
1) Windows 2000 Professional OR
2) Windows 2000 Professional Set-up.
Unfortunately for me the second option is highlighted by default. Yes, I
know I can move the highlight up to the 1st option just by pressing the up
arrow button, and though that is really a simple thing to do, it just feels
like an extra hassle. Prior to my running set-up as I
have described above, the computer would boot automatically to start W2K
Pro. So my question is, is there a way that I can UNINSTALL the W2K Setup
program that is represented by option 2) as described above? Further, I
know computer's and software can react in sensative ways some times when
installation & uninstallation changes are made, so I need to know that if
there is a way to UNINSTALL the Set-up option listed above as 2) Windows
2000 Professional Set-up, without screwing up my currently installed O/S and
without screwing up any of my currently installed applications. Does anyone
know how to do this?
