I have a problem with several programs that I have
installed at various times, that are not listed in the
add/remove program list. Why is this? What alternatives do
I have to uninstall them in the best possible way?
/Jonas

Hi

You have several options:

1. The program itself may have an uninstall option.
2. Via Start>Programs.
3. A 3rd party uninstall program - such as www.ashampoo.com

I forgot to say that these are programs without an
uninstalling option. But thanks, I'll try ashampoo then.

Find the folder they're in and delete the folder.

You should not give people advice such as this. There usually is a lot more
to the program than the contents of the folder. If you just delete a folder
you leave behind the registry entries, dll's, ect......

True, however if the program is in a folder no harm is done. The registry,
although not necessary, can be cleared via a registry cleaner.

Find the folder they're in and delete the folder.

First examine the folder and note the names the program uses for
itself, write them down.

Next see if there's a program called "uninstall.exe" or "remove.exe" or
"unwise.exe" or something similar and click on it to uninstall.

Then do a search for files using any of the names you recorded in the
first step, remove any to the recycle bin so they can be restored if
problems occur.

Last, run regedit, backup the registry and search for any keys bearing
the names you recorded above.

That should get rid of most programs but learning the names is
important, for instance, Zone Alarm, maybe the hardest of all software
to get rid of, uses vsdata.dll, vsdatant.sys, vsmonapi.dll,
vsnetutils.dll, vspubapi.dll, vsutil.dll, etc. Fortunately, Zone Alarm
is one of the very few software companies that does publish full
uninstall info on their website.
