I needed to uninstall IE6. I followed the Control Panel/
Add/Remove Programs route. I unchecked Internet Explorer,
the wizzard did its thing. I went to install IE and
followed the procedure but nothing changed. My problem
was with Outlook Express so I had to uninstall IE. Oulook
Express was not uninstalled either. All my emails,
settings and the like were still there. Do I need to
disable anti virus programs to uninstall IE?

You CAN'T uninstall IE/OE in Windows XP. All the function in Add/Remove
programs does is to remove the icons from all the menus.

Try here:
Repair OE and IE
