Uninstalling Hardware

I have a CD\DVD burner installed and I wish to uninstall it then re-install
it. I remember how to install it using Control Panel>Install Hardware, but
I can not remember where and how to install it. I think it is somewhere in
AdministrativeTools

The reason is that when I first installed it, the name of it came up (in
Explorer) as a printer because I neglected to correctly name it as a burner.
Right clicking it anywhere does not give me the option of renaming it. So I
figure doing this will allow me to correctly name it.

Thanks, Dave C.

You dont need to do that with a CD\DVD burner, just plug it in and it will show up.
but I can not remember where and how to install it.

You presumably mean uninstall it. You dont need to do
anything special there, it uses standard Win drivers.

You can uninstall the burning software if you want
to, using the usual Add/Remove Programs.

Nope, not with the hardware.

Just delete that bogus 'printer' in the Printers and Faxes folder with XP.

Start menu, right-click, properties, hardware tab, device manager, find
the drive, right-click, uninstall, close device manager, restart. The
drive should be redetected after the computer restarts.

Mitch, that is exactly the one I was looking for. Thanks much.
