I have come to the conclusion my dial up networking needs
to be removed and reinstalled from the CD. However, I can
not for the life of me find where this can be done.

(I've tried and tried before coming to post here. If you
wish to e-mail me directly, please remove the .spam from
the e-mail address above. I will be monitoring the
newsgroup for a few days from work to see any responses.)

In case you have any other ideas, here are the symptoms.

Web browsing is fine. I use a 56k V.90 modem (Lucent
Chipset), with Windows 2000 SP2 (with security updates)
Last Wednesday all was well. Thursday I came home from
work and found that I could not do anything requiring even
semi-real-time data transfer. Tracerts to common sites
(microsoft.com, dell.com, yahoo.com, google.com, etc.)
will time out on every hop EXCEPT the actual destination,
which provides a perfectly normal looking response. If
timing is not an issue, i.e web browsing, everything works.

I have tried:
uninstalling and reinstalling modem drivers
uninstalling and reinstalling all network protocols
replacing the modem with a brand new modem (USR v.92) (and
loading drivers of course)
switching to another physical phone line (including the
cord from PC to wall)
Consulting with my ISP's technical support group.
Consulting with 4 different computer technicians.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

First, upgrade to service pack 4
Second, try installing adaware and running it.
