Well.. It acted like IE5 because it allowed me to re-install IE6. So I
assume it went to IE5. However, when I checked the Help|About, it has
always shown version 6. So I guess there is room for doubt.
So you were able to restore to IE 5?

Restoring to IE 5 did not help either.
Hi JCO,
From IE side I have following suggestions:
Suggestion 1:
========================
Since this issue happens to IE, I think resetting IE setting to
default
may
helps.
1. Delete the cookies
1) Click Start, click Search and click For Files or Folders
2) Type "Cookies" (without the quotation marks) and click Search Now
3) Delete files in the cookie directory
2. Delete all the temporary files
1) Open Internet Explorer
2) Click Tools, click Internet Options and click Delete Files button
in
the
General tab
3. Delete the downloaded objects
1) Open Internet Explorer
2) Click Tools, click Internet Options and click settings button in
the
General tab.
3) Press View Objects.
4) Remove all the Objects there.
4. Remove the Plug-Ins in Internet Explorer
1) Close all the Internet Explorer windows.
2) Open a Windows Explorer window by right Click My Computer and
choose
Explore.
3) Locate the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\PLUGINS
4) Remove all the files in this folder.
5. Delete SoftwareDistribution folder
1) Stop Automatic Updates service.
a. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc.
b. In the right pane, stop the Automatic Updates service.
2) Delete C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder.
3) Test the issue again.
6. Reset all settings of Internet Explorer
1) Under the General tab, click Clear history button.
2) Under the Security tab, click Default Level button.
3) Under the Content tab. Under Content Advisor the button default
is
"Enable..."
Click on "Clear SSL" under Certificates, and click on "OK."
4) Under "Local Area Network (LAN) settings" click on the "LAN
Settings..."
button - remove all checkmarks and settings unless actually required
to
use
a proxy and close the window
5) Under the Programs tab, click Reset Web Settings.
6) Under the Advanced tab, click Restore Defaults button.
Under Browsing put a checkmark into or remove the checkmark from
"Enable
third-party browser extensions (requires restart)".
7) Click on "Apply", then "OK"
8) Close Internet Explorer and restart the computer.
7. Disable all third party Add-ons
1) Open Internet Explorer.
2) Click Tools to select Manage Add-ons.
3) Disable all third party Add-ons.
Suggestion 2:
=====================
Create another new user profile to test
1. Log on as the Administrator or as a user with administrator
credentials.
2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
3. Click User Accounts.
4. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Advanced.
5. In the left pane, click the Users folder.
6. On the Action menu, click New User.
7. Enter the appropriate user information, and then click Create.
8. Logon with the new user account to see if the issue occurs in the
user
profile.
Suggestion 3:
=====================
Re-register IE related DLL files. Run following commands in command
prompt
regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 msjava.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll

regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 shell32.dll
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
Suggestion 4:
======================
To perform an IE6 repair if you don't have IE6 listed in Add-Remove
Programs, then in Start|Run then enter "rundll32
setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance" without the quotes, exactly as shown
(it's
case sensitive), and select theappropriate entry.
More detailed info is available here:
Description of the Internet Explorer Repair Tool
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q194177
If you find that you need to do a re-install of IE6 then you can
consider
the following:
1) Insert the Windows installation CD in your CD-ROM drive.
2) Click Start, and click Run.
3) Copy the command prompt below in the Open box (exactly as show -
it's
case sensitive), and click OK. (Assumes %System% is installed in
Windows
on your C:\ partition. Change as appropriate for your particular
situation.) Rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall
132
c:\windows\inf\ie.inf
4) It will display a "File Needed" screen, click "Browse.." and
browse
to
<CD-ROM drive>\i386, (where <CD-ROM drive> is the drive letter of
the
CD-ROM, For example, D
.
5) Click Open, click Ok, it should begin reinstalling Internet
Explorer.
Hope this helps.

Vincent Xu

I know.. I didnt explain my issue.
My IE won't let me go to certain websites, ie I can't log into
eBay.
I
get
a blank screen. This has happend once before. It has to do with
the
order
I install certain Programming tools. This is my programming
computer,
therefore, it is not that big of deal. I can always use my normal
computer
for that anyway.
I just don't know what other sites are affected (that I can't go
too).
I
thought if I could reinstall my browser it would undo what was
wiped
out...
but it did not work. I had this issue on the newsgroup about a
year
ago
and
exhausted many different attempts but no solution was found. I
just
re-did
my programming computer last week after getting a new harddrive.
I
forgot
about this issue.
So the end results is that I can't go so certain websites (https
type).
Not
all are affected but the eBay is one that I go to a lot,
therefore,
I
simply
can't use this computer unless I install another browser
(firefox).
This
is
what I had to do last time.
Didn't help what? We've no idea what you're talking about.
