I initially installed windows 98 on my desktop (about 3
years back). Then since I wanted to work on Windows 2000
also, I created a partition on the disk and installed
windows 2000. So right now, I have two operating systems
(windows 98 and windows 2000) on my system. I want help
in uninstalling windows 98 from my system and also not
lose the partitioned space on the hard disk. I dont want
to erase the programs installed on windows 2000, thats
why I cannot do full formatting of the disk.

Please advise what needs to be done. I would highly
appreciate any help in this regard.

Thanks.

You can't format a disk, you can only format a partition. If you didn't
install any W2K programs in that partition that holds Win9x, you can format
it, but you don't have to (you can just delete the Windows directory). Then
modify the boot.ini file in the active root (hidden attribute) to do away
with the menu option for Win9x.

If you do plan to format the Win9x partition, you'll probably loose the W2K
boot files ( a repair of W2K would be in order to recover). Before doing any
of this, locate where your applications are installed in W2K and consider
doing a backup.
