Uninstallation & reinstallation of Windows Messenger 4.7

I posted my problem as "unwanted notice and messed-up contact list" on 03/16/04. So far I haven't got any solution. I guess it's a tough problem

Now, I want to try uninstallation-and-reinstallation way to solve the problem. Can anybody tell me how to uninstall Windows Messenger 4.7 completely and how to reinstall it? Can the reinstalled one work just like the original one

Hi Peggy,

To fully reinstall Windows Messenger, close down Messenger if it's running (right click the
messenger icon in the notification area/system tray and click close). Then click the start
button, then click Run and type in (copy-paste if you like):
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Then click OK.
Messenger will then be uninstalled. For more detailed instructions and screenshots, go to,

Then reboot, click "Yes" to remove Windows Messenger's settings if prompted, and then
reinstall from here:
