Hey all,
I just got a Dell computer with XP home, but I recently
bought XP Pro for another computer. The computer couldnt
handle XP Pro, so I hadnt used it yet. When I got the
computer, I didnt realize XP Home did not allow for IIS
to be installed.

So I popped in the XP Pro disk, and did a full install
thinking it would just rewrite over XP Home. After
checking out the Program Files, all of the original
software is still on there, so it obviously didnt write
over XP Home completely.

I tried booting from the disk directly and formatting the
hard drive completely, but setup hung. Any ideas??

If the XP Pro that you purchased is the Retail Upgrade (or Retail Full
Install) version of Windows XP then it would install as an upgrade of
the existing XP Home. The end result would be a fully functional XP
Pro install with all of the bundled software that came with your XP
Home also preserved.

Sort of like having your cake and eating it too. Provided, of course,
that you want to have at least some of that bundled software.
