My son has made the mistake of trying to install winXP on same
partition as win98SE, and wishes to do a clean install of winXP only,
to use as his 2nd PC.
His Oldish PC...350mhz processor, 128mb ram, standard graphics card,
and 4 gig H/D.(which may meet the XP min requirements apart from
possibly the graphics card)?
He contacted me asking for help, his problem is:
He has original XP CD, but unable to complete the "setup" using his
CD.
He has set his Bios to enable the order of bootup to...'E'(cd rom
drive),A,and H/D.
After coming here to scan this relative group? we are still unable to
get to the position where the XP CD will repartition/format etc.
He has a bootable floppy to access 'C' that way, but we fail to
progress from it.
If we have to Format etc. via 'A' boot disk, we will need the A to Z
of how to do it.(Fdisk prior to formatting or visa versa).
As it is difficult to communicate via his 'phone on this problem,
would gratefully appreciate any assistance or give further info' as
required.
No data is required on his H/D for recovering.
Latterly his mouse is not working(but had been)...just to add to the
problem.!
I have previously formatted my PC (win98SE), but this beats me.!!
I also understand he needs to disconnect all the periferals attached
to that PC, prior to initialising winXP installation, at some stage.?
He may have to be content to install win 98 only as last resort??
Hope I have explained the dilema adequately.???

TIA

Try to go in the bios and check if you can boot on cd...
If you make cd drive your first boot drive: restart with the xp cd
If it's not possible, you have to download a boot xp floppy disk on microsoft.com
