I assume you mean Windows Messenger?
To fully remove Windows Messenger, close down Messenger if it's running (right click
the messenger icon in the notification area/system tray and click close). Then click the
start button, then click Run and type in (copy-paste if you like):
Doesn't work. Just returns a message that it can't be removed (OCS
16422). (Sorry, can't translate it exactly from the complicated
Japanese. Seems to say some sort of registration removal failed.)
However, what I really want to know is how this piece of something got
back into my computer. I removed it long ago, and I certainly had no
intention of reinstalling it at any point. I assume those greedy
b@st@rds from Microsoft felt I needed to be exposed to their
advertising and piggy-backed this thing on top of some "security"
update.
If Microsoft was a REAL company they would be liable for their
failures--and they would now be bankrupt, just paying for the screwups
of the last two weeks. My own bill would be at least 2 hours worth of
time trying to clean up after them.
If you keep getting the error, Messenger may in fact be gone. You can manually go into the
\Program Files\Messenger folder and look (you can also just remove the folder).
Occasionally Windows Messenger releases appear on WindowsUpdate, but I can assure you that it
doesn't "piggyback" a legitimate "security update" (unless it's specifically a Windows
Messenger security update).

No, the integration features will remain. However, Hotmail (which is really the only website
that opens Messenger), will no longer open Messenger. Outlook Express may experience a small
delay in starting, you can quickly solve that by closing Outlook Express, then downloading
and running this .reg file: http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/stopmessenger_oe.reg
