Hi can anybody help me. I want to uninstall windows xp home but it does not
appear in the add or remove programes. Please keep it simple as I am not
computer literate and need simple instructions. Thank you

Did you upgrade an older version of Windows to XP? That's the only way
you can uninstall XP, and then only if you kept the uninstall folders.
Otherwise there's no uninstalling Windows.

You can't normally uninstall Windows from within Windows; that would
be like pulling out the rug from under yourself.

The only exception to that is if did an upgrade from Windows 9x, *and*
you took the option to save the previous operating system *and* you
didn't convert to NTFS. If all of those are true, you'll find an entry
in Add/Remove Programs, which will take you back to Windows 9x.

But it's hard to help you without knowing what your intentions are.
What are you planning to do after you uninstall Windows XP? What
operating system do you want to run instead? Normally you accomplish
this by just reformatting the drive and installing whatever operating
system you want. If you want to install Windows XP or Vista, you just
boot from the CD or DVD, take the option there to format the drive and
proceed with the installation.

Be aware, though, that installing another operating system cleanly, by
reformatting, means that everything on the drive will be lost. So
first make a backup of anything you can't afford to lose.

Hi Leonard. No it was a new insallation on a new computer. I purchased the cd
from PC world.

As others have said, you cannot uninstall any versions of Windows. To
remove it requires booting from the CD
and erasing the disk. However, the computer will be useless unless you
install some kind of operating system on it.
Thus, I wonder what you are trying to accomplish.

You can
(1) Erase/destory XP, i.e. format or more severely, delete partition and
start with a clean hard drive, then install whatever you want, assuming that
you can find drivers for the hardware. I mention this little catch-22,
since modern motherboards/PCs may not have any drivers for older operating
systesm like winodws 98.
(2) Upgrade to Vista, if the hardware can handle it, or if you are willing
and able to upgrade the hard ware.
(3) Install a different operating system in parallel with XP (so-called dual
boot setup). Possible parallel system include XP (second copy), Vista,
LINUX, maybe 2000. While in theory 98 or ME could be in parallel with XP,
they usually need to be installed first, not second.

ok here it is. first back up your files or anything that is important to you.
you can us any type of media or any third party back-up site. when done. go
to my computer and format your drive. you can also upgrade to any other
windows xp. which will keep your settings and files. if do not want to format
your drive. easy.
