I have Windows Server 2003 installed in a machine, and need to uninstall it
and revert to Windows 2000. I know I sent this question to different OS
group, but I think it can apply since the logic should be similar.

First, I make sure CDRom is the first boot device in BIOS setting. Then, I
inserted Windows 2000 CD and attempted to boot from CD, and re-format the
hard disk and install from there. Unfortunately, it still loads Windows
Server 2003, and then pop up an error message dialog saying "The CDRom is
from an older version of windows than the one you are presently using. setup
functionality is disabled." Any ideas??

Thanks!

Hi,

Boot off of the CDROM then when you're at the partition selection screen,
hit the "d" key on the Windows Server 2003 partition and install to there.

NOTE: Doing what I just said WILL make everything on that partition vanish,
so make sure you have a backup first

Hi
There was a product call On track Disk Manager which
allowed you to zero fill your hard drive. They used to be
available from most hard drive manufactures. But this is
probably only one of a lists of probable fixes.

I tried that, but Windows 2000 CD can't boot, not sure if my CD problem, or
Windows 2003 has installed?

Back up all your stuff. Boot of of 2003 disk and then format the partition.
Install the 2000 disk and boot of that, install 2000 the 2003 information
should have been cleaned off with the format.

Try cleaning your CD-ROM drive - or you have a bad CD - is it an original or
a copy?

If I boot from 2003 disk and format the partition, it will then install 2003
afterwards automatically. How can I put 2000 disk in the middle of the
process? The problem is I dont know why I can't boot from 2000 disk, maybe
2003 is installed.

Hi,

Windows 2003 cannot stop you from booting a CD, because Windows is not
started when this happens. This is a problem in BIOS, or something is wrong
with your CD.

You can use a Windows 98/ME boot disk to start FDISK, and from there format
the drive. If you do not have Windows 98/ME installed, you can find a boot
disk here:
