I have upgraded my pc at home from Windows ME to Windows
2000 and now some of my software is not working and my
modem is not working.

How do i uninstall 2000 and re install ME.

My PC is not letting me run the ME installation CD.

Thanks...Glenn

You can not revert from Win2k to Winme - you will need to backup your data
and reformat the HD then do a fresh install of WinMe. If you have not
formatted your disk to NTFS you can set it up to dual boot windows 2000 or
WinMe. However, before rushing in to anything why don't you tell us what
software isn't running properly and why your modem isn't working. With the
modem for eaxample, what miodem is it? Is it recognised by the system? What
do you see in device manager manager (settings - control panel - system -
hardware - device manager)? Is it showing a problem with the modem's
drivers or some kind of resource conflict? You may find that a bit a of
tweaking can sort out your Win2K installation and save you some hassle.

It's not possible to downgrade the operating system
without wiping the disk and doing a clean install of ME.
If you can save copies of everything you need you might do
this but it's probably better to persevere with W2K, it's
a much more stable system.

it may be just a matter of reinstalling your software
and installing win2k drivers for your modem

did you do a "clean install" of win2k or did
you "upgrade" from ME? I've had multiple problems when
simply upgrading from ME to win2k wihtout a format, but
no problems when I've done a clean install.

You should make sure to backup all important data and do
a clean install, then find the win2k drivers for your
modem on the modem's manufacturer website!

All this talk of downloading drivers for your modem. You will find, as we
all have done I am sure, that once you do work on your computer that has the
effect of breaking your connection to the internet (e.g. modem not working)
you will ask yourself "why didn't I download all of that stuff when I had
connectivity!". I.e before the upgrade work began. :) I continue to find
that it helps having a 2nd (or 3rd) computer very close by which I can use
to surf the net to get me out of the holes I dig for myself (as recently as
yesterday).

There may be some applications such as certain games and other "media
intentive" apps that simply don't run on Windows 2000. Check the boxes or go
to the app vendor site and check to see what apps will not run on W2K. If
there are some that won't run and that you just cannot live without, then an
upgrade is out of the question.

They key is to do all of the hard work before you start the upgrade, then
the upgrade will go somewhat more smoothly.

Most ppl already gave an answer to Glenn B's question, but one correction :

Most apps run on win2k, with the proper Service Packs & updates installed.
After updating and tweaking my win2k, I kinda never had compatibility isuues
any more...
And, btw, for gaming, I think win98 still is the best. It uses fewest
background apps, and everything can be nicely tweaked - not like the refresh
rate problems in 2k & XP.

Now that's a good tip ;) BACKUPS folks, BACKUPS!
