I got a used machine and it had Win2000Pro installed.
There are files missing ? or so the warning pop-up says. I
didn't get the operating disc so I want to uninstall it
and install my old win98 2nd. I tried to format the disc
but it's still there. How do I get Winn200 off the disk.

.
the 1st you must create starup disk from windows 98,
insert to disket then you insert the disket to computer
what you want to instal windows98se, don`t forget to setup
bios -disket-cd-hd. then you write fdisk, delete partition
and create again. after that you format harddisk, and you
can instal win98se.. oke.. GOOD LUCK..

Hi, Did you ever get an answer to this question? I have
the very same problem and I also want to get rid of
Windows 2000 and load up windows ME.
Please let me know if you get the answer.

If the NTFS file system is installed on the Win 2000 boot drive, you will
have to format it first tp set up '98. Also, Win 2000 might not be loaded on
the C partition. You may have to format the whole drive or drives.

Well, Win2000 is off the disk if you formatted it.
The problem you are encountering is that the Win2k bootloader has not been
removed from your master boot record on the harddrive. The boot loader still
tries to load Win2000. But, as Win2k is not installed anymore, you are
getting an error message.
To get rid of this Win2k bootloader you should install a new master boot
record. To do this you should reboot your machine with a Win98 boot floppy.
Make sure the file fdisk.exe is on the boot floppy. After reboot, on the
command prompt you enter the command:

fdisk /mbr

This will put a new and clean Master Boot Record on the drive (note: this
parameter will not start up the fdisk interface and will not touch your
current partition setup).

Cor
