Win 98 H P scanner 4200C is not compatible with win xp. I found update that
says it is compatible with most windows. I tried to install but got a
message that it might damage my computer. I uninstalled the old
software,but now I get a message { this program updates your H P scanning
software} each time I start the computer.
I have not found a way to delete or remove this message.
I don't know much about computers so hope someone can give me advece.

See "How to Restore the Operating System to a Previous State in
Windows XP" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306084).

Thanks for help Thorsten. For some reason I was not able to restore. possibly
the date is too far back. I have foune the file in folder c:\sj655. I tried
to delete, but get this message {cannot delete update: access is denied. make
sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not
currently in use}. The file is not write protected and I close the window
when it opens, so don't guess it is in use.
Hope this information is some help in solving my problem.
Many thanks for your help.

Try to delete the file/folder from the Safe Mode: "A Description of
the Safe Boot Mode Options in Windows XP"
