Uninstall stuck

I uninstalled a program using the add/remove programs feature, and it went
through its process, seemed to remove the program, (shortcut on desktop is
gone) but the screen is stuck, won't budge, showing the populated list. I
can still use the computer, it doesn't show up on Windows Task Manager
applications, but is still there.
Any hints?

Restore the system as described here: "How to Restore the Operating
System to a Previous State in Windows XP"
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306084). Now reinstall the
application on top of the existing files and then try to remove it
again.
